About This Course

This course aims to use digital-storytelling to enhance students' EFL writing skills. The course will emphasize critical thinking, ethical AI use, and reflective learning, enabling students to maximize ChatGPT's potential while maintaining academic integrity.
Through inquiry-based learning, students will produce two kinds of digital stories: (1) personal narratives; (2) collaborative stories (in pairs). Each project will include these steps: reading, demonstration, tool tutorial, task production, presentation, evaluation, and adaptation. Readings will be assigned on ecourse2 to inspire students to create their individual and collaborative stories.
Students are encouraged to utilize ChatGPT as a support tool for different phases of writing: brainstorming, outlining, drafting, paraphrasing, translating, proofreading, and evaluating. Additionally, students will collaborate in Special Interest Groups (SIGs) to explore integration of AI tools (including ChatGPT) for different writing purposes.
Feedback giving and receiving is an important part of the learning process in this course. Through the semester, students will engage in using ChatGPT for self-assessment and having discussions with peers and instructor for improving drafts. Students will earn credits for providing quality feedback for your peers. Guidelines and orientation for giving constructive feedback will be provided.
